HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Heather Gray, executive director of Joy Closet, and assistant director Tressy Wells provided an update on Hope House at the Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting on Dec. 10.

Acting as a home for displaced foster children, construction on Hope House is underway thanks to donated land from local farmers and building materials from Legacy Metals. “The foundation for the house is poured and the walls should be going up within the next week or so,” said Gray.

Joy Closet is still seeking sponsorships to help cover the costs of the various rooms in the house including rooms for different age groups, two kitchens, a dedicated DCBS office, among others. Sponsors who fund the full cost of a room will have the opportunity to name that room.

So far, the organization has raised $70,000 for the project, but Gray noted that they are still a little bit short of their goal. “We are still looking for additional support,” she said during the meeting. “We still need electrical supplies, and plumbing supplies. Some of those things have not been donated yet.”

Gray further emphasizes that although Joy Closet serves nine counties in Kentucky, Hope House will primarily focus on kids in Christian County. She says instead of children being rushed into an unprepared environment, they will receive immediate care at Hope House, including bathing, dressing, and nurturing.

“We will have a team of volunteers who will get the home ready beforehand,” she says. “They will even bake cookies for the kids because nothing says home like fresh baked cookies.”
