HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hope House is a new initiative from Joy Closet that will provide dwelling for foster children who are removed from their homes. Joy Closet is a community foster closet in Hopkinsville that provides necessary resources for foster families.

According to a press release, the initiative comes after Joy Closet became aware of a concerning issue involving children who were removed from their homes and brought to the Department of Community Services office.

In some cases, children had to sleep on the DCBS office floor when removal occurred at night or when finding a new placement took time.  Hope House wants to combat this issue by providing a space for children to sleep comfortably.

For the past two and a half years, Joy Closet has dedicated itself to aiding foster and kinship families, as well as children, along with supporting DCBS workers.

Although the house is in its beginning stages, Joy Closet is hosting an informational session on April 18. Participants can register on the Joy Closet website for the lunch hour from 12-1 p.m. or the dinner hour at 6-7 p.m. Both sessions will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1305 S. Main Street in Hopkinsville.
