HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Thanks to a donation from Dr. Harshul Patel, and with the cooperation of the City of Hopkinsville, four automated external defibrillators (AED) have been installed throughout Hopkinsville in various parks.
These AEDs are kept in a locked weatherproof case and can be accessed in the event of a medical emergency by calling 911 and receiving an access code. No specific training is necessary to operate the AED, and a dispatcher can easily walk the caller through how to use the AED to help someone in need.
“When someone is experiencing cardiac arrest, seconds matter. Thanks to this generous donation, citizens and visitors can feel safer knowing these devices are nearby,” said Fire Chief Steve Futrell.
The AEDs are strategically placed at the following locations: East Second Street Park, Debow Park, Ruff Park Pavilion, and Joe Mumford Park. The AED boxes are under constant video surveillance and protected by a tamperproof lock system.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department would like to extend its appreciation to Patel and the City of Hopkinsville for helping this project come to life.
Citizens are encouraged to know the locations of these devices and report any damage they may see by calling 270-890-1400.
