HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Work outside of Christian County High School continues with the construction of brand-new athletic facilities for the Tigers on campus. This portion of the project includes brand new soccer, baseball and softball fields behind the school and is included in the construction budget for CCHS.
So far for the fall athletics season, Tiger football has sold 1,073 tickets with boys and girls soccer selling around 400 tickets combined. This has resulted in $26,000 in revenue just a month into the season, including volleyball. CCHS Executive Principal Ken Carver said he hopes to make athletics a community wide event to provide support for hard working student athletes.
At the Sept. 3 Christian County Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jason Wilson shared the status of the new facilities at CCHS. He said new turf at the soccer field has been installed along with the fence and scoreboard. Netting and bleachers are also in progress, and the teams have been utilizing the field for practice.
However, the field will not be game ready until they are able to construct restroom facilities and a concession stand. Board Chair Lindsey Clark asked if the team would be able to play a game at the field during the 2026-27 school year, Wilson responded by saying, “For games, more than likely not just because until we get restrooms and things like that out there it really doesn’t make sense.”

Stadium, baseball field progress
The baseball field is coming along as well, with turf now going in and concrete work in progress. The softball field is still in early stages; more focus will move to this area once the baseball field is complete.
Moving over to the Stadium of Champions, work to resurface the track is in progress and turf will soon be laid in the cheerleader section to allow them to be closer to the stands in their own designated area. The playable surface has already been completed, with CCHS already hosting their first home game as scheduled in August.
“We are on track to be finished with everything at the stadium prior to our next home game, which is the 25th of September, so things are going well,” said Wilson.
As far as other upgrades go, he said facilities such as restrooms will not be fully renovated, but have received a fresh coat of paint, updated lighting, new toilet seats and changing tables have been installed. Branding will slowly be updated over time.
Current contingency budget, more change orders
Before the campus opened, the school board reported that there was just over $2.4 million left in the contingency budget for construction of the high school and athletics facilities, which has helped fund last minute change orders.
During the Sept. 3 meeting, three change orders were approved by the board. This includes a $30,000 investment into fencing on the exterior of the school that will close off an open section between academies. Another change order totaling $9,000 will fund the addition of a concrete driveway and ramp for the band building.
Despite these expenses, an additional change order was approved which resulted in a $43,000 return back to the district. This positive revenue covered the cost of the two expenditures that were also approved.
The most recent construction budget and contingency will be shared by the finance director at the next board meeting in September.
