HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Members of the Oak Grove Steering Committee discussed the reopening of Wades Way Park at their March 18 meeting. The park on Wades Way Lane currently is undergoing a complete renovation with new mulch, ADA accessible equipment, and other upgrades.

Playground equipment was delivered in November 2024, including large sets of multiple structures. One of the structures features musical instruments, sensory panels, two slides, and a crawl tube. Another structure is being built for older kids which will have three slides and numerous climbers.

Committee member Janet Edwards said she is coordinating with Finance Director Matt Egbert on the progress, who has been spearheading the equipment process. Edwards shared that she wants a grand reopening to showcase the new park and its equipment, possibly around National Playground Safety Week which is April 21-25.

The committee tentatively discussed scheduling the celebration for Saturday, April 26 with the possibility of having a community cookout alongside a touch-a-truck event.  Edwards said she is going to contact the police chief to help with the idea and hopes families will come out to celebrate.
