OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver has decided to move forward with the demolition of Fire Department Playground off of Thompsonville Lane.
The current playground is located behind the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Station, comprised of a few swings, a basketball court, grill and small pavilion. Discussion around the condition of the playground has dated back a few years, with renovations and additions suggested in the past to make the space more usable.

The demolition was discussed during the June 16 Playground Committee Meeting in Oak Grove, which included Mayor Oliver. Other members of the committee suggested possibly replacing the playground with a dog park or rebuilding another playground. However, safety and liability concerns remain due to the proximity to the heavily trafficked area by the fire department.
Oliver told Christian County Now that the current equipment is very outdated and needs to come down. She explained that in the past, the playground was used a lot more, “At one time that entire area around the fire station was a mobile home park and the park was used a lot.”
At this time, there are no solid plans for the area after the equipment is removed.
In 2024, the city moved forward with repairs to Wades Way Park, which opened to the public in the summer of 2025. Renovations included two brand new play structures and is ADA accessible.
