OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Oak Grove Community Center is inviting the public to contribute to a special display celebrating the city’s upcoming 50th anniversary. Organized by local leaders and the Oak Grove Steering Committee, the initiative seeks Oak Grove related items such as vintage photographs, blueprints, souvenirs, maps, and other memorabilia.

Donations will be accepted from September 10 to 13, with the display open for public viewing from September 16 to 22. All contributions will be returned after the event.

The steering committee emphasizes the significance of the display in recounting the history and narrative of Oak Grove. They encourage residents to consider contributing items such as an aged napkin from a longstanding restaurant or a shard of glass from the old Charlie’s Steakhouse to enrich the storytelling experience.

Along with the historic display, the city will be celebrating the anniversary with a weekend full of festivities including a historic bus tour, a dinner, a community wide picnic and even a time capsule burial.
The schedule of events is:
  • Saturday, Sept. 21- Historical Bus Tour at 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 21- Dinner celebration from 4-9 p.m. Cocktail hour at 4 p.m. Dinner at 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 22 – City wide picnic with yard games, hotdogs and hamburgers at Valor Hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 22- Burial of the time capsule at the Oak Grove Community Center at 5:30 p.m.
