HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A draft for Kentucky’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan has been released, which is a four-year tentative schedule of transportation projects starting in 2027 that will utilize federal funds. This 500-page draft includes multi-million-dollar road projects for Christian County to expand roads, improve intersections and mitigate traffic.

“The draft 2026 STIP includes federally funded projects of all sizes across many modes of transportation, all with the goal of enhancing the quality of life for Kentuckians and supporting the economy through safe and efficient connections to what matters most,” said KYTC Secretary Rebecca Goodman. “The plan offers the public a look at where we expect federal investments to be made in Kentucky over the next four years.”

Drafted road plans for Oak Grove, Hopkinsville

One of the highest budgeted projects in the STIP draft is the improvement and widening of KY-115 from I-24 in Oak Grove to Anderson Road in Pembroke. This is tentatively scheduled for 2028 and is estimated to cost $13 million in federal funds.

Also in Oak Grove are plans to address safety and congestion issues on KY-115 from KY-911 to State Line Road which may include a roundabout, as well as mitigating traffic by KY-115 and I-24.

Over in Hopkinsville, potential plans in the STIP include two phases of work in order to extend KY-1682 (Eagle Way Bypass) from the E.T. Breathitt Parkway to US-68/80. The estimated cost of the first phase in 2029 is $5.1 million, with an added $2.7 million in 2030.

A road reconstruction project for Hopkinsville is also listed, with plans to reshape KY-1007 (North Drive) from US-68 to KY-1682. This project would also be broken up into two phases between 2029 and 2030, each costing over $7 million.

Additional road projects included in draft for Christian County

Here are some more projects included in the draft that may occur between 2027 and 2030, along with their estimated cost.

  • Installation of High Mast lighting at I-24 rest area: $1 million
  • Improve KY-107 from the Bypass to KY-380: $4.3 million
  • Addition of turning lane on US-41A northbound near mile marker 11.4: $270,000
  • Address safety issues by installing interchange lighting on I-24 by Exit 89: $820,000
  • Widening and correcting geometric deficiencies on KY-107 from mile marker 15 to 15.6: $3.1 million
  • Provide left and right turning lanes and improve sight distance on KY-107 at Lovers Lane: $1.6 million

On a larger scale, the draft STIP includes megaprojects like the I-69 Ohio River Crossing in Western Kentucky, the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project in Northern Kentucky, and the Mountain Parkway Expansion project in Eastern Kentucky, along with countless local road and bridge projects.
