OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the Oak Grove City Council meeting Tuesday night, Randy Graham with Christian County Emergency Management spoke to the council about recent flooding issues brought on by the significant rainstorm in February. Specifically, he focused on problems in the Shadow Ridge neighborhood after several residents made complaints of flooding.
“The problem with the water in that area is that there is nowhere for it to go,” said Graham. “Eventually, it just has to seep into the ground.”
Shadow Ridge is comprised of three streets where all the water flows towards the end of the street in the direction of the homes, explained Graham. He reported that several residents in the area were stuck in their homes, and two cars were flooded. “The people over there had to work around the flooding by walking through their yards or parking away from the water,” said Graham.
With limited solutions, Graham suggested to the council that an engineer should be brought in to look at a nearby retention pond which is just south of that residential district saying, “Potentially, we may need to dig that pond out and make it a much larger pond.”
Councilmember John Campbell added that homes on Kingman Court were also severely affected. Going forward, Graham shared he will be working with Mayor Jackie Oliver to help these affected residents long-term, including using any incoming mitigation money. The council agreed to look into getting an engineer to help with flooding efforts.
