HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Pennyroyal Arts Council is bringing drama and poetry to Christian County with an eventful night of Shakespeare in the park. A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be brought to life by Kentucky Shakespeare on Sept. 30.
The free performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will center around the comedy play written by William Shakespeare in the year 1595. The play is set in Athens and consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. Audience members are sure to be immersed in a magical world filled with tricks and confusion.
Along with the performance, Kentucky Shakespeare is visiting local high schools throughout the week to conduct nine Hip-Hop Shakespeare workshops. The group explains that “students will explore Shakespeare’s sonnets and verse alongside contemporary music to discover rhythm, poetry, and language.” Since 1990, the acting group has served over one million students in all 120 Kentucky counties and more.
This is the third time PAC has offered a free performance to the community which will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Hopkinsville Greenway Amphitheater, 450 North Drive. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket, their own picnic, and chair to enjoy the show.
