HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On Nov. 7, the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council announced that it was awarded a Workforce Invest Grant by the Tennessee Valley Authority to support collaborative efforts in training and education.
The South Western Kentucky EDC will be working with Hopkinsville Community College and Fort Campbell to implement the grant and create more opportunities for military members. The grant will help military members looking for civilian career opportunities in the region, according to Tony Prim, Associate Director for Business Retention and Expansion.
In response to the increasing demand for a trained workforce, the TVA along with third-party consultants developed Workforce Invest in 2022. The goal of the program is to address critical workforce development needs.
The training program will provide military valuable skills in industrial maintenance and mechatronics through a partnership with Hopkinsville Community College.
“We are always ready and thrilled to partner with our regional economic and community development organizations to ensure Hopkinsville Community College is actively working to meet the needs of our regional businesses and industries,” said Lea Martin, Workforce Development Liaison at HCC.
The project is a partnership among local community leaders including Christian County Government, Hopkinsville Community College, West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, Fort Campbell Transition Assistance Program, and the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council.
