OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) –At an Oak Grove Special Council meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15 council members voted to replace their current solid waste franchise GFL Environmental for Stinky Pinky, which will be in effect for the next five years.
Following input from residents, several council members reported that Stinky Pinky was the preferred choice. “This has been the best response I have ever seen from the residents of Oak Grove,” said Janet Edwards. “The top things residents pointed out was reliability and recyclables.”
John Campbell shared that residents wanted Stinky Pinky because they were the cheapest and offered recycling, however after adding a $1 franchise fee, Impact Waste Service was actually cheaper. Campbell motioned to accept Impact Waste but was voted down 3-2.
Janet Edwards motioned to accept Stinky Pinky which was accepted 3-2 with council member Edward Cook being absent. Council members told audience members that Stinky Pinky will be added in to their water bill and are discussing billing it separately.
The Council also discussed a planned upgrade to the waterline extending from Carter Road to the 155 intersection. Public Works Director Brain Ahart explained that the city plans to upgrade the existing eight-inch line to a 16-inch line to provide a secondary water feed. Ahart stated that they are awaiting final engineering plans and council decided to discuss it at a future meeting.
