HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville man was arrested on East Seventh Street on Monday after stealing a car and leading police on a high-speed chase.
On Jan. 19, Hopkinsville Police received a report of a stolen vehicle, which was later spotted travelling on East Ninth Street the following day. After attempting a traffic stop, the 20-year-old driver sped away, disregarding traffic signs. He continued to accelerate while weaving into both lanes of traffic and veering into oncoming traffic, according to a police report.
The suspect drove off the road into an open grassy area. As he attempted to get back onto the road, officers performed a PIT maneuver and successfully blocked him. The driver and a juvenile passenger both fled on foot, and the juvenile was apprehended at the scene.
After the driver was identified, HPD later located him at his residence. He was arrested and charged with speeding, fleeing police, careless and reckless driving, receiving stolen property, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, and several traffic charges.
