HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – United Way of the Pennyrile hosted a breakfast bright and early Thursday morning at The Silo to kick off the public phase of their annual fundraising campaign. United Way of the Pennyrile works to support 15 local agencies with donor assistance, including Sanctuary, Inc., Armed Services YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville, the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile, The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville and more.
This year’s campaign theme is ‘Making Headlines, Making a Difference – You Are the Story’, with a total fundraising goal of $725,000. The campaign is “news” themed, with fundraising goals presented as weather forecasts, breaking news stories from campaign co-chairs, and interviews with donors throughout the presentation.
“We’re making a difference this year, and you are the story,” Melanie Noffsinger, United Way Executive Director said. Campaign co-chairs Derrick and Amy Watson presented the campaign video,
highlighting United Way’s impact on local organizations and the tri-county community as a whole.
Campaign “pacesetters” were highlighted during the presentation as well. Pacesetters have been raising money behind the scenes for this campaign and have already raised $330,471 combined. Pacesetters include representatives from local commercial, educational, governmental, industrial, professional, and residential groups who have helped raise money for the campaign.
With the fundraiser campaign at 45% to goal, more help from the community is needed. The campaign is set to close in February of next year.
“We need you to join our story,” Derrick Watson said. “When someone supports this campaign, a child who gets an opportunity or the neighbor that gets back on their feet, that’s the story that matters.”
