OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An ordinance providing incentives for new businesses was approved on the second reading by city council Tuesday evening. Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver is hoping this help will attract unique economic growth to the city.

“I want businesses here that are not in Hopkinsville, that are not in Clarksville,” Mayor Oliver told Christian County Now. “We want something unique and different.”

The ordinance states that city council has made economic development a top priority with the goal of improving the quality of life for Oak Grove residents and business owners. Incentives for new economic developments include waiving water access fees, and partial rebates on payroll and business license taxes depending on the size of the business. The city may also award four grants per year at $3,500 to existing businesses for upgrades or remodeling.

Mayor Oliver explained that the possibilities for economic growth are endless with their proximity to Fort Campbell, Hopkinsville, and Clarksville. “Hopkinsville really focuses on industry, we don’t have enough room for industry. Clarksville is just booming, but I think they are outgrowing themselves,” said Mayor Oliver.

While the addition of Oak Grove Gaming and Racing and city cities growing festivals have solidified Oak Grove as a unique destination in the area, she is hoping for more. Mayor Oliver has been told by members of the community that a steak house or home improvement store would be well received.
