HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A drunk man in possession of meth and marijuana is facing drug trafficking charges after causing a disturbance at a residence
On June 3 around 10 p.m., officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Lee Lane after a caller advised that a man was attempting to “break her door down,” according to a police report. The suspect was detained due to his erratic behavior and was identified as 33-year-old Edrick Burrus of Hopkinsville.
Arresting officers noted that the suspect smelled of alcohol. He declined to participate in a field sobriety test, but a search of his nearby vehicle found open alcoholic beverages. After a more thorough search of the vehicle, just over one pound of loose marijuana was found inside grocery bags in the floorboards of the vehicle and in a plastic tote. Oficers also found a backpack containing 23 grams of meth.
Burrus was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw before he was transported to the Christian County Jail. He is being charged with DUI, trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in meth, and possession of open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.
