HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – For the third year in a row, visitor spending in Christian County has reached record highs, according to a report release by the Kentucky Department of Tourism.
“This achievement underscores Christian County growing reputation as a premier travel destination in Kentucky,” said Oak Grove Tourism Executive Director Traci Cunningham. “Economic impact figures show that visitors to the area spent 239.1 million in 2023, which is 1.9 million more than the 237.19 million record previously set in 2022.”
Cunningham noted a continued increase in festivals, concerts, and community events drew record crowds, enhancing Oak Grove’s reputation as a vibrant hub.
“We could not be more thrilled, to see the record-breaking numbers Christian County has once again achieved in tourism. These results solidify the greatness of the Hopkinsville-Christian County area,” said Amy Rogers, Executive Director with Visit Hopkinsville.
The tourism industry in Christian County has created over 1,804 new jobs county wide up from 1,791 in 2022. Generating 46.7 million in labor income with jobs ranging from hospitality and retail positions to roles in event management and outdoor recreation services, according to a press release from Oak Grove Tourism.
“Our strategic marketing campaigns, partnerships with regional attractions, and investments in visitor experience have paid off remarkably. We are committed to continuing this momentum and ensuring that Oak Grove, Christian County remains a top destination in Kentucky,” said Cunningham.
Statewide, the economic impact of the tourism industry in Kentucky generated 13.8 billion in visitor spending in 2023, and supported more than 95,235 jobs and 996.2 million in state and local taxes. Christian County alone ranks ninth out of 120 counties on visitor spending.
