HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The beginning of summer in Hopkinsville is clearly marked with red and white striped tents popping up all over the city selling the biggest and brightest fireworks. As Independance Day approaches, and people in the community prepare to celebrate, there are certain rules and regulations to adhere to.
According to an ordinance set by the city, fireworks are permitted within city limits between July 1 and July 5. Those planning late night celebrations should keep in mind that fireworks cannot be discharged past 12:30 a.m., and kids under the age of 18 need adult supervision.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department reminds the public that fireworks cannot be ignited within 200 feet of any structure, vehicle, or another person. Fireworks cannot be discharged on public property, or on someone else’s property without their consent. People who disregard these regulations may have to pay fines up to $1,000 or face imprisonment up to 30 days, according to the City of Hopkinsville ordinance.
