HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – In order to maintain the safety of all Hopkinsville residents looking to explore the rail trail this summer, the city is spreading awareness about their implemented safety measures.
“Safety in our community has always been a top priority for the City of Hopkinsville and the Hopkinsville Police Department,” said Amanda Brunt with the City of Hopkinsville. “Our ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety ensures that residents can enjoy our community amenities with peace of mind.”

Over the past year additional city cameras have been installed along the three miles of trail, with a total of 53 cameras. The nine existing call boxes also contain cameras and are strategically placed along the trail. These boxes are tested twice a week to make sure they are reliable during an emergency, according to Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby. Calls made from the stations are sent directly to local dispatch, which will send out aid as soon as possible.
“Cameras and call boxes have been in place along the trail since its initial installation. As the trail expands, we are continually adding more surveillance to ensure comprehensive coverage and quick and reliable access to help when needed,” Brunt added.
People can also expect to see regular patrols of Public Safety Officers to ensure that all residents, especially children, have access to safe environments. The trail is open daily from sunrise to sunset. To find trailheads with parking, landscaping information, rules and restroom information are available on the Hopkinsville Greenway rail trail map.
