Gene Gale McIntosh age 78 Hopkinsville passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be at 12:30 PM on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be at Maddux-Fuqua- Hinton Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements., at Maddux-Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home.
He was born on July 28, 1945 to the late Paul Lilburn McIntosh Sr. and Dorothy Dill McIntosh in Oliver Springs, TN. Gene graduated from Todd County Central High School in 1964. He met the love of his life, Sandra Gary McIntosh, and they have been married for 59 wonderful years. Gene is a proud veteran of the Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, TX and served in Vietnam in 1970. He also worked for Colonial Bread Company, Ewing Tire, Raben Tire and was a Hopkinsville City Council member from 1988-1998. His favorite jobs however were father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Upon retiring, Pa— as he was affectionately known— could be found in the school pick-up line, grabbing a snack with his grandchildren, and volunteering at Millbrooke Elementary.
Gene was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and greeter. He was known for sharing the love of Christ with anyone he saw. Gene was the Christian County American Cancer Society President in 1983 and served on various committees. He was a girls softball coach for Hopkinsville Christian County Youth Softball League and volunteered at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. He was a former member of Hopkinsville Optimist International, the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority (HWEA) board and the Hopkinsville Electric System (HES)Board. Gene was a participant and host family in The Walk to End Alzhiemers, a member of Active Day and Rock Steady Boxing. Preceding him in death are his parents, Paul and Dorothy McIntosh; and his brothers, Donnie Dill McIntosh and Ralph Dale McIntosh.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Gary McIntosh; two daughters, Karen (Tommy) Kenady and Kim (Keith) Batts, both of Hopkinsville; two brothers, Paul (Faye) McIntosh Jr. of Bowling Green, Ky, and Bruce (Rosalind) McIntosh of Richmond, Ky; his grandchildren, Zack (Sara) Kenady of Madisonville, Ky, Nathan (Lexie) Kenady of Crofton, Ky, Koby Batts of Louisville, Ky, and Kylie Batts of Hopkinsville; and his great-grandchildren, Deacon and Miller Kenady, and Ellie and Nixon Kenady.
