Update:  The Hopkinsville Police Department and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint investigation after the threat of an active school shooter at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary school.

Christian County Public Schools held a press conference with both agencies a few hours after the threat was lifted. Hopkinsville Chief of Police Jason Newby said, “I am very proud of the school staff and how everyone handled the lockdown.”

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville law enforcement agencies responded to an active shooter threat this morning at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.

Hopkinsville Police wants to assure the community that there is no active shooter, and all teachers and students are safe. A large police presence quickly responded to the possible threat and secured the school. The call was received around 10:30 a.m., and all Hopkinsville schools were then placed on high-alert.

The lockdown of the school and area has now been lifted, and no credible evidence of a threat was found. Parents are able to check their students out early if they wish and can arrive at Christian County Agriculture Expo Center 2856 Pembroke Road.

The source of the threat is unknown at this time.
