HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Downtown Hopkinsville was full of music Friday night as over a dozen singers gave their best performances at Founders Square for the chance to win $500 and a local recording session.
Richie “Ace High” Acevedo, Chassity Mumford, and Darion Ahonen used their combined talents in the music industry to serve as judges for the night. The three of them were looking for the perfect combination of singing ability and star power.

Crowds packed downtown to watch as singers entered the open mic portion for the chance to enter the finals. Only four were selected from the wide range of performances to compete alongside four other performers that had auditioned through video submission.
Judges made sure the crowd stayed engaged and hyped up as the finals kicked off later in the evening, but only one person could walk away with the Hoptown Idol title. Singers tackled classic songs from a variety of genres, and in the end, Courtland Collins caught the interest of the judges with his country sound and took home the win.
Although all of the singers impressed during the finals, Collins successfully engaged the crowd by inviting veterans up to stand beside him during a performance dedicated to American soldiers and received high praise from the judges.
“We love presenting this opportunity for local vocalists and hobby singers to showcase their talents for the community,” said Rachel Sanders with Parks and Recreation. This is the fourth year they have hosted the event as part of their downtown events series.
