HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Andrew Hernandez, pitching coach at Wharton Junior College in Wharton, TX, has been named the head baseball coach for the Hoptown Hoppers 2025 season.
“During our interview process he was really impressive and proved himself to our hiring committee,” said General Manager Danny Roberts. I am excited about the future of the Hoppers. Andrew is eager to get started recruiting 2024 Hoppers as he has an extensive list of contacts and connections to recruit from. Andrew’s coaching style and character are a perfect fit to our Hopper family. In addition to his interview, Andrew had a great reference from former Hopper coach, Trey Porras, some of you might remember that name,” said Roberts.
Andrew Hernandez, a native from Corpus Christi, Texas, first started his playing career in high school at Foy H. Moody High School and was a part of the 2017 UIL state finalist in baseball. He then went on to play at Texas A&M International University in 2019. As a freshman, after logging 50 innings he then transferred to Wharton County Junior College. During the 2020-2021 seasons he achieved a second team all conference pitcher of Region 14 south.
Next, he committed to play at Texas A&M Kingsville where he finished his playing career, he then went straight into coaching, getting started with the Texas Twelve Organization. In the fall of 2023, he was hired as the Assistant pitching coach at Wharton County Junior college where he coached Brian Panneton, who was a NJCAA first team all American. Just recently he was promoted to pitching coach.
“I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity,” said Hernandez. “Thank you to GM Roberts and the Hopper Board of Directors for putting your trust in me. I look forward to being a part of this program and working closely with the players and management to continue the success of the Hoppers. I will not let you down and look forward to recruiting a winning team for the loyal Hopper fans Coach Porras has told me so much about.”
