HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Three people were charged after setting up camp between the Subway and McDonalds at the intersection of North Drive and West Seventh Street in Hopkinsville.

Around 3 p.m. on Sept. 23, officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department made contact with three men who were staying in a wooded area between the businesses. According to a police report, the 30, 44, and 64-year-old men were told to vacate the premises. They are each being charged with unlawful camping and received a court date.

Royale Marfil, public information officer with the Hopkinsville Police Department, said they routinely encounter homeless camps around the city and allowing them to grow without intervention could disrupt the community and local businesses.

“Homelessness is an issue all over the US and we have resources for the transient community here in Hopkinsville such as My Brother’s Keeper through the police department, Micah’s Mission and Salvation Army, just to name a few,” added Marfil.
