HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An empty home on Vera Drive in Hopkinsville was severely damaged in a fire late at night on Jan. 1.

During a routine patrol by law enforcement, smoke was spotted coming from the home near West Second Street. The Hopkinsville Fire Department was dispatched, arriving on the scene within three minutes around 10:50 p.m. Advanced damage was already done when crews arrived, with the stability of the roof compromised, according to HFD. The flames were battled from the exterior of the home due to damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Payton Rogers with HFD. The home appeared to be lived in but was empty at the time of the fire.
