Updated 4:40 p.m.: The trailer has been recovered by the Bud Hudson Football League, but the equipment was not inside. According to a statement from the league, they are still searching for the missing equipment, and they will address the damage that was done to the trailer.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Police Department has identified the suspect who is wanted for stealing a trailer containing over $60,000 worth of equipment. The theft was reported on Jan. 7 by the Hopkinsville- Christian County Bud Hudson Football League, a local youth football league and nonprofit.

James Phillips Jr. has been identified by HPD and Hopkinsville Crimestoppers as the person in possession of the trailer. Since the theft occurred, the 6×12 trailer has been defaced, with the phrase “Free Apples” spray painted on the back along with a phone number, according to the nonprofit.

“These kids rely on this equipment for the upcoming season, and we need your help to bring it back to them,” said a statement from the league. “If you are the individual who took this trailer, understand that you did not just steal from someone—you stole from a group of children who look forward to this season every year.”

Anyone who sees the trailer should contact 270-887-TIPS (8477). The suspect is currently wanted for theft and criminal mischief.
