HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As visible progress is being made for the new Christian County High School, officials are preparing for the 2026 opening date by turning their heads to potential traffic flow in the area.

At the Feb. 11 Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, Magistrate Russ Guffy expressed that he has received calls from residents in his district concerning the future traffic flow once construction is complete. Due to the nearby Lovers Lane winding through multiple jurisdictions, each department will have to separately tackle solutions to accommodate school and bus traffic.

“As our road department can attest, Lovers Lane is one of the most unique roads in the whole county,” said Guffy. “Half of it is county, half of it is city and each end are both state roads.”

He went on to say that he has met with different school officials about the ingress and egress patterns of the busses and the students. While no concrete plan is set, he said their goal is to minimize the traffic in neighborhoods and Lovers Lane near Lafayette Road.

The state has already begun preparing plans for the nearby interchange. Guffy explained that some turning lanes may be added and they are planning to shave down the hill at the end of Lovers Lane to increase sightlines saying, “I think that’s been needed for a long time regardless of the whether the school was going in.”

Homeowners in the surrounding area will be contacted preemptively via mail to any major changes on roads once plans are settled on.  Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam added that the KYTC District 2 director shared additional plans for an auxiliary lane on Highway 169.
