HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 30-year-old man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after assaulting a woman and destroying the interior of a residence while holding a baby.
Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department were dispatched to Florence Street in Hopkinsville around 2 p.m. when the victim informed them of the assault, disclosing that the suspect had left the scene. While officers were approaching, a vehicle matching the description of the suspect was found traveling on Canton Street, and a traffic stop was attempted.
The suspect failed to yield for police, speeding up and avoiding stop signs at speeds over 75 mph heading back toward Florence Street. According to a police report, he stopped after a short pursuit and was detained by officers at gunpoint.
After the arrest, the female victim told officers the incident began when she vocalized her intent to leave the relationship with the suspect. He became upset and caused damage to the inside of their residence with his fists and an ASP baton. During the outburst, the suspect was holding their baby in a car seat until the victim’s mother was able to take the baby away from him. The suspect then proceeded to hit the victim in the face after following her outside.
In the police report, both female victims stated that the suspect was coming down off of a methamphetamine binge leading up to the altercation. He is facing seven charges including wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, and assault.
