HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County class of 2025 announced the successful completion of their parking lot expansion project at Jeffers Bend Environmental Center and Botanical Garden.
The expansion effort, part of the class’s year-long community service initiative, took place on Friday, April 25, 2025 with class members working alongside community partners to move and spread gravel, making way for increased visitor access and improved event accommodations at Jeffers Bend.
The project was made possible through the generous support of Rogers Group, who donated thousands of dollars’ worth of gravel to the effort. Their contribution ensured the project had the high-quality materials needed to enhance the site’s infrastructure.
Additionally, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority (HWEA) played a vital role in bringing the project to life. Spearheaded by Leroy Adams, HWEA provided critical assistance by helping transport the donated gravel to Jeffers Bend and supplying machinery and manpower to efficiently distribute it across the expanded parking area.
Community volunteers also pitched in, including team members from Copperband Technologies, who helped with much of the manual labor to ensure the gravel was properly placed and leveled.
“We are especially grateful to Rogers Group for their generous gravel donation and to HWEA for their machinery and hauling support,” said class member Liz Grant. “I’m also incredibly thankful to my boss, Bill Petersen, for sending a couple of team members to lend a hand. This truly was a community effort.”
Jeffers Bend is a vital outdoor resource for Hopkinsville and the surrounding community, offering environmental education programs, nature trails, and recreational activities for families and students alike. The expanded parking area will make it easier for visitors to access and enjoy all that Jeffers Bend has to offer.
The Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County class remains committed to giving back to the community and looks forward to completing additional phases of their project in the coming months.
