HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As of July 1, Christian County officially transitioned to their new trash service provider, Impact Waste. In order to assist with a possible lapse in service coinciding with the change and the holiday weekend, the county is also providing free disposal sites.

This change in provider, initiated and approved by the Christian County Fiscal Court, required that residents outside of the city limits of Hopkinsville, Crofton, Pembroke and Oak Grove register with this new company in order to receive services. This transition is separate from the recent franchise agreement Impact has with the City of Oak Grove.

GFL, the previous provider for the county, will be utilizing a third-party provider to remove empty containers from residences. These bins should be left at the end of the driveway until they are picked up, according to a statement from the fiscal court.

Trash drop off sites available in Christian County, statement from judge executive

Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam issued the following public notice regarding the trash service transition:

“Christian County Government recognizes that the recent transition in residential trash collection has created a gap in service for some residents. In response, and with the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaching, we will provide a temporary trash disposal site for those affected.

A large roll-off container will be available at the Christian County Weather Spotters Building, located at 100 Margaret Place, off West Seventh Street in Hopkinsville, during the following hours:

  • Thursday, July 2: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Friday, July 3: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 4: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

This service is intended only for residents impacted by the lapse in trash collection during the transition from GFL to Impact Waste, primarily in the southwest portion of Christian County.

Please note the following:

  • Household trash must be bagged.
  • No tires, mattresses, furniture, construction debris, or other bulky items will be accepted.
  • The disposal site will be under video surveillance.

We are offering this service as a courtesy to residents who will experience more than a seven-day interval between scheduled trash pickups.

Additionally, GFL has requested that residents leave both GFL containers and containers from previous providers empty as they complete the transition and collect remaining carts throughout the week.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this transition. The long-term result will be lower-cost trash collection for citizens in the unincorporated areas of Christian County. We are hoping this relieves some pressure for those hosting cookouts, fireworks or other 4th of July events.”
