HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Despite the scorching hot weather, the community came out to enjoy the sixth day of the 75th Western Kentucky State Fair which included a hot dog eating contest and more fair fun alongside some traditional eats provided by local organizations.
Alex Phipps, Junior Auxiliary President, spoke to Christian County Now about the nonprofit’s continued role in the fair. Founded in 1950, the volunteer-based women’s organization currently has 36 members. Their fair setup, also known as the “Pink Booth”, sells made-to-order food to raise money each year.

These funds go directly back into the community in various ways including through their annual Charity Ball, Breakfast with Santa, monthly donations to organizations and more. Phipps said, “If we see a need we are there to serve.”
Junior Auxiliary is one of many local nonprofits that are serving up fair favorites in a row of colorful booths. Also represented is Christian County 4-H, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Jaycees and more.
“Come out the rest of the week and support us so we can give back to our community,” Phipps said. “We still have our famous pork chop sandwiches.”
Hot dog contest, more events to come
A new favorite also returned this year–the Hotdog Eating Contest. This event took place in the convention center at the fairgrounds, bringing in a lively crowd to cheer on participants.

Seven contestants, representing a wide range of ages, had ten minutes to eat as many hotdogs as they could before time ran out. Within the first five minutes, over half of the contestants dropped out, leaving three eager contenders for first prize left.
The overall winner, a community member named Joshua, ate seven entire hotdogs, leading to his victory.
With just a few days left of this year’s fair, many more events are to come including tractor pulls, a trivia night, petting zoo, cornhole tournament, live music, wrestling and more. The festivities will conclude on July 4 with a community fireworks show. Check out the Western Kentucky State Fair’s website for their entire schedule.
