HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Animal Shelter is hosting a massive adoption event from June 5-7 in the hopes of giving dozens of cats and dogs new homes at a discounted rate.

Adoption fees will be $50 plus tax, with vendors and food available on site during the three-day event. The money from vendor rentals goes toward the shelter’s Get ‘Em Done program that helps get shelter animals spayed and neutered. $15 nail trims and microchipping will also be offered during the event.

“That’s about half of the normal adoption fee to try to encourage more people to take some our pets into their homes and leave room for the new incoming pets, because this time of year unfortunately there’s a whole bunch,” said Animal Shelter Director Melissa Goff.

Groff explained that they usually adopt double or triple their normal rates during this event, with a lot of people who are unable to adopt coming through to sponsor animals or donate money to the shelter.

This will be a rain or shine event on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., with vendor availability dependent on the weather. There are currently nearly 200 pets inside the shelter up for adoption including kittens, puppies and adult pets looking for a forever home, according to Groff.
