HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County Public Schools has self-reported a violation to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA).
The infraction occurred during the most recent KHSAA designated “dead period,” which took place from June 25 through July 9, according to a news release from CCPS. During this period, student-athletes are prohibited from using school facilities for athletic purposes, and coaches are not allowed to have any contact with their athletes. This includes restrictions on practices, workouts, training sessions, and team meetings.
No further detail of the violation was provided by CCPS, or KHSAA after inquiry.
CCPS has issued disciplinary actions, which includes a one-year probation for the Christian County High School baseball team. The probation is intended to ensure future compliance with KHSAA policies and does not impact the team’s eligibility for postseason play.
Bylaw 27 in the KHSAA Handbook provided by Media Relations and Publications Director Connor Link states the following about probation guidelines.
“Probation is a more severe penalty and may be described in the following manner. Normally, an individual or a school on probation is on conditional Association membership, but may be permitted to engage in a regular schedule, sanctioned
events, or district, region and state championships. This is provided that the individual or school has taken steps to ensure the problem which placed the individual or school on
probation has been alleviated and will not re-occur. Additionally, a school on probation may be restricted to limits on scrimmages, regular season contests.”
CCPS says they are cooperating fully with the KHSAA as part of the review process and remains committed to upholding the integrity of high school athletics by following all guidelines and regulations set forth by the Association.
