HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – There are a few events going on this weekend in Hopkinsville to check out! Local talent will take the stage downtown to compete, the circus is coming to town, and businesses are celebrating the start of the school year.

Hoptown Idol

  • Where: Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville
  • When: Aug. 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: Eight preselected singing contestants will take the stage to show off their talent and compete for a cash prize and the title of Hoptown Idol. The community is invited to bring a chair and watch the competition; food trucks will be on site.

Circus Grimaldi 

  • Where: Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds
  • When: Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Aug. 3 at 2 p.m.
  • Cost: $18.92
  • Details: A traditional circus featuring the oldest form of family entertainment. Jugglers, magic, clowns, aerialists, acrobats, and live music under the big top.

Fun Zone Back to School Bash

  • Where: Fun Zone 1015 Skyline Drive
  • When: Aug. 3 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: The second annual Back to School Bash is open to the public while supplies last. Registration is recommended to make sure every student will be stocked with school supplies. During the event, there will be food, bouncers, a foam machine, and their play space will be available.

Southern Lanes Bowling Back to School Bash

  • Where: Southern Lanes Bowling 3001 Canton Pike
  • When: Aug. 3 from 4 p.m.- 7 p.m.
  • Cost: Wristbands are $20
  • Details: An afternoon of family fun with unlimited bowling, bumper cars, and mini-golf with the purchase of a wristband. There will also be a backpack giveaway and free passes for kids.
