HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Construction of the new Rotary Park at Pardue Lane in Hopkinsville is inching toward the finish line, with playground equipment currently being installed. Expected to be open to the public this fall, work on the site kicked into gear this past spring, with a 13,000 square foot inclusive and accessible playground planned.

“We anticipate all work will be finished by end of September or early October,” Public Works Director Mike Perry told Christian County Now.

Sidewalks forming a path around park are already in place along with light poles, with the remaining sidewalk work to be finished once the playground is completely installed. According to Perry, aside from the playground, they still need to install a few decorative light poles, benches, trash receptacles, and a roof on the pavilion.

Assistant Public Works Director Dave Herndon additionally shared that it will take around two more weeks to fully assemble the playground equipment, with another two weeks required for instillation of the poured-in-place rubberized surface, depending on the weather. The playground will consist of several slides, a sensory play area, music station, swings, and will be fully ADA accessible.

The current work is just the first phase of the project, which includes the playground, pavilion, sidewalks, and benches. The second phase has been delayed by the city due to cost, which will eventually add on a basketball court, parking lot, and an additional pavilion and sidewalks.
