HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An emergency declaration was signed by Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam on Nov. 4 due as the Christian County Justice Center deals with heating issues amid a cold snap. This is the result of the failure of four of the eight boilers that provide essential heating to the building.
“The lack of functioning heating systems in the Justice Center creates immediate dangers to the health and safety of county employees, court personnel, judges, attorneys, and members of the public who must access essential government services in increasingly cold weather conditions,” says the declaration.
According to the judge executive’s office, the Justice Center will remain open and functioning as normal during this time despite the outage. However, as temperatures are expected to continue dropping, the office has decided that this issue requires immediate repair or replacement.
The Chrisitan County Fiscal Court will be required to obtain formal bids for repairs of the boilers, which will be discussed during a special called meeting on Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m.
