HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Hopkinsville Community College has purchased new property at 721 North Main Street in Hopkinsville, consisting of 8.03 acres, to relocate the CDL and Diesel Technology programs in the future.

HCC’s CDL program has been in place since 2013 and has trained over 1,000 students, with more than 85% of those students being active-duty military, transitioning military, veterans, or military dependents. The program currently operates with five trucks and one tanker trailer, all of which have been funded through grants or donated to the college.

For over nine years, the city has graciously allowed HCC to lease the space off the bypass where the CDL trucks have been housed at. Moving the vehicles to a larger facility will allow HCC to have more room for future equipment and for the program to teach more advanced maneuvers for student requirements.

Expansion process, building demolition

Currently, the HCC maintenance team and others are working to clear the property of overgrown trees, bushes, and fencing. HCC is working closely with an environmental consultant and the State Environmental Agency to ensure that the alteration of the land is handled appropriately. New gravel will be brought onto the property, and there are three buildings that will be demolished.

Two buildings will remain to house the programs, and one storage building will remain for equipment. A major goal for HCC is to have the CDL trucks and trailers relocated to the property before June of 2026, though it is anticipated that the move will occur sooner.

Once the initial clean-up and demolition efforts are completed, HCC plans to build a CDL – Diesel Technology facility on the property. This development will support the growth of not only the CDL and Diesel Technology programs, but also other programs currently housed in the HCC Flexible Training Center. HCC looks forward to continuing its mission of leading in academic excellence through this exciting development.

As Dr. Alissa Young, HCC President/CEO, often says, “Great things are happening at Hopkinsville Community College.” She is very excited about the land purchase and the opportunity to bring students closer to their classrooms, campus facilities, and the services available to them at HCC. Dr. Young also extends her appreciation to the City of Hopkinsville for allowing HCC to lease the space where the CDL trucks have been housed for over nine years.
