FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Opening May 15, the Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum is seeking dedicated volunteers to serve in a variety of roles. Located at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Tiny Town Road, the museum is situated just outside of Fort Campbell. Once completed, it will be the second largest Army museum in the country.

Efforts to create the museum have been ongoing for decades, with fundraising taking the bulk of that time. The 50,000-square-foot museum, situated on a 33-acre campus, showcases the legacy of Fort Campbell’s most storied units in military history. It will include interactive exhibits inside, as well as aircraft and a memorial courtyard outside.

A news release from the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation says a variety of volunteer opportunities are available in the museum, including Welcome Ambassadors, Docents, and gift shop staff. Find a breakdown of the rolls below.

  • Welcome ambassadors are the visitors first contact in the museum, providing a warm welcome and general information and assistance to all visitors.
  • Gift Shop volunteers assist the gift shop manager with operating the gift shop within the museum raising funds to support the museum.
  • Docents are the heart of their organization, providing information on exhibits, guided tours and educational experiences for visitors of all ages. As a docent, volunteers will share their love of the Army and Fort Campbell with the public, help bring exhibits to life through engaging and informative tours and create memorable experiences for school groups, families, and tourists.

No prior military experience is necessary, and schedules are extremely flexible. They will provide the necessary training to equip volunteers with all the knowledge and skills needed to be a successful as a volunteer or docent. Applicants must be over 18 and have a driver’s license but do not need a DoD ID Card.
