HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During a board meeting on Oct. 19, the public school system announced that two Christian County students will serve on the Board of Education for the 2023-2024 school year.
A news release from Christian County Public Schools says that Jesslyn Sharkey and Kylie Batts are the two, student-elected representatives who were elected by their peers at their high schools. They will each attend monthly Board meetings, give presentations, and represent the student body at official gatherings. However, they are non-voting members and will not participate in closed-session meetings.
“We are excited to once again welcome two student representatives to our Board,” said CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel. “We began this initiative last year with much success and look forward to the new perspective these two young ladies will bring. We want our students to know they are valuable stakeholders and to continue incorporating their perspectives into the decisions we make is a crucial piece to carrying out the mission of Christian County Public Schools.”
Both students are seniors, Jesslyn attends Christian County High and Kylie attends Hopkinsville High. This is the second year the school system has chosen student ambassadors, and they plan to continue the program in the future.
