HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With Christian County’s unique connection to the Kentucky pastime of horse racing through the local harness racing track, it is the perfect place to feel connected to the 2026 Kentucky Derby coming up on May 2.

Two dozen horses have entered the Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, including four on the also-eligible list, according to the Derby website. On race day, a full field of 20 horses is expected to compete in the 152nd Run for the Roses.

Even though Hopkinsville and Christian County is a few hours away from Churchill Downs, locals can still dust off their fanciest hat and enjoy the Derby festivities during a couple of viewing parties.
