HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Since 1999, Jeffers Bend Environmental Center in Hopkinsville has kicked off summer by inviting families for a day dedicated to fishing. The 25th Annual Take Kids Fishing Day will be on May 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Each year dozens of families pack the natural space, with kids encouraged to fish independently at spots around their small lake and along the hiking trail of the North Fork Little River. Water activities will also be set up, with a water slide and obstacle course.

Jeffers Bend says this event was made possible this year thanks to the support of over 60 local businesses and organizations. The pre-registration price is $2 per person, rising to $3 per person on the day. Military and first responders are free.

With the cost of admission, kids will receive lunch with a hot dog, chips and drink along with a t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to kids for the smallest, largest and most fish in each age group. Families are able to bring their own fishing gear, cooler, and lawn chairs.

Pre-register at Aaron McNeil Center, the Parks and Recreation department, Pennyrile RC&D, the Hopkinsville Boys & Girls Club, HWEA drive thru, housing authority, HES drive through. Find more information about registration on the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center Facebook page.
