OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Gov. Andy Beshear announced that he has extended an executive order that reduces the gas tax by 10 cents. However, only 33 cities and counties, including Oak Grove, will see this extension while other areas will watch gas prices rise again starting this week.

To extend the initial May 5 executive order that decreased the tax past the 30-day mark of June 10, Kentucky law required county officials and city mayors to make a request. The Beshear administration received requests from 33 leaders, where the order has now been extended through June 30, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

The only Christian County city that is included in this extension is Oak Grove. The communities that did not request an extension will see gas and diesel prices rise beginning Thursday, June 11.

As of June 10, the average gas price for Hopkinsville is $3.62, which is still around one dollar higher than last year’s average. Just last month on May 5, the average was $4.21. That same time last year, regular fuel prices were an average of $2.85 in Hopkinsville.

To enforce the reduction and ensure providers don’t keep the extra ten cents, Beshear also activated the state’s price-gouging statute.
