HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Monday night around 7:30 p.m., a Hopkinsville man was charged after a toddler was found running in the street unsupervised, with a similar situation occurring in another part of the city the day before.
On June 15, residents in the area of Gale Lane reported a two-year-old roaming the street alone, holding two ice pics in her hands. She was found by Hopkinsville Police officer covered in “filth” with a full diaper. According to a police report, witnesses told HPD that this was the fourth time they had seen the child unsupervised outside.
The front door of the child’s home was open, with another toddler found inside the home. HPD reports that the interior of the home was in poor condition with a strong odor of urine. Contact was eventually made with an adult inside the residence, and the 21-year-old male in the home was cited and charged for endangering the welfare of a minor.
DCBS was contacted for a welfare check, and it was discovered that the department already had an active case on this family due to living conditions.
In a separate incident the day before, an 18-month-old was also found alone in the street near West 13th Street on June 14 around 3:30 p.m. Two individuals attempted to locate the toddler’s home before contacting HPD. The acting guardian was located and admitted to leaving the front gate of the home open. DCBS was contacted and the child was removed from the home. The 58-year-old Hopkinsville man was cited for criminal abuse.
