HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Students at Christian County High School worked together to gather over 600 food items for Thanksgiving dinner kits that will be distributed to students with food insufficiencies.

“They get excited that they get to help their fellow students,” says Shawna Johnson, the Youth Service Center Coordinator for CCHS.

Each grade was encouraged to donate Thanksgiving food staple ingredients including turkey, vegetables, side dishes, and dessert. The grade that collected the most food items won a pizza party, and extra gym time. The items collected will supply Thanksgiving dinner for over 70 students and their families, who remain anonymous.

Seniors at CCHS donated the most with 522 items. Johnson said the seniors took particular interest, and groups went on shopping trips together to ensure they purchased whatever they could.

Johnson hopes that including students in the process will be beneficial in the long run. “It’s always important to remember to help one another. There’s no judgment involved. Helping one another and doing so with a grateful and kind heart is always something people will appreciate.”
