HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Families who are looking to escape the heat and learn more about local history can visit the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County for free all summer.
They made the announcement on July 1, sharing that “Mayor Knight’s Museum Days” will be in effect now through Sept. 5, thanks to the generosity of the Hopkinsville mayor. Over the next two months, all children up to 12th grade can visit the Pennyroyal Area Museum at no cost every day that they are open. Alongside this, extra children’s programming can be expected.
“Our museum does an outstanding job preserving the stories that make our community unique, and we’re proud to help make those experiences available at no cost this summer.” said Mayor Knight in a news release. “I encourage families to stop by, explore the exhibits, and take advantage of everything the museum has to offer.”
The museum is packed with exhibits about Christian County history, featuring displays settlers, Native Americans, the Tobacco Wars, Edgar Cayce, Bell hooks and more. Several hands-on exhibits are also there for young kids to interact with.
The Pennyroyal Area Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 217 East Ninth Street in Hopkinsville. The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County also includes the Woody Winfree Museum, which has been closed for an extensive period of time due to damage.
