HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With Christian County Public Schools starting classes on Aug. 19, there are several events planned in the area to celebrate and support local families.

The Oak Grove Community Center is hosting a large event where students can get free haircut and supplies, with Men 2 Be in Hopkinsville also planning to distribute school supplies and toiletries during their community bash plus many more.

Back to School Bash

  • Where: Ashwood Village Park
  • When: Aug. 1, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: A day of giveaways, food, family fun and worship on Locust Street in Hopkinsville.

WATCH presents: Men 2 Be Back to School Bash

  • Where: War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville
  • When: Aug. 2, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: The WATCH Foundation and Men2Be Inc. will host a free back-to-school community event featuring school supply giveaways, free haircuts, a sneaker exchange, fitness classes, bounce houses and family activities. The event will also include vendors, food trucks, raffles and prizes while collecting donations of school supplies, toiletries, socks and gently used shoes to support local students and families.

Back to School Block Party

  • Where: Oak Grove Community Center
  • When: Aug. 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: The Oak Grove Community Center will host a community block party in partnership with the Thomas A. Simms Masonic Lodge No. 170’s annual Back-to-School Giveaway. The event will feature free food, games, a live DJ, barbers and hairstylists, along with the Oak Grove Farmers Market, providing families with school-year resources and a day of community fun.

Back to School Praise Party

  • Where: Means Avenue Baptist Church in Hopkinsville
  • When: Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: Backpacks and school supplies will be available for students during this community event, with bouncers, barbecue, prayer and singing.

Back to School Bash

  • Where: St. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Pembroke
  • When: Aug. 15, 12-3 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: Shoes, school supplies and more will be distributed to students during this community event in Pembroke. People can expect food and fellowship along with prizes and games.
