HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Unseasonable heat has hit Hopkinsville this month, with temperatures consistently remaining around 10 degrees higher than average, significantly higher than this time last year. The hottest day in the middle of September 2025 was 96 degrees, which has been exceeded this already year by three consecutive days of peak temperatures at the start of the month.
Climatological Data for September 2026 from NOAA shows that the “normal” temperature for Hopkinsville in September is 74.2 degrees. Amid the initial heatwave between Sept. 1-5 this year, temperatures stayed around 99 degrees for a three day stretch after hitting the high 90s for the two days prior. During this time, heat index values remained in the triple digits with a prolonged Heat Advisory.

The excessive heat has persisted through major community events in Christian County this month such as the Hummingbird Festival, Trail of Tears Pow Wow, and Summer Salute.
Between Sept. 15-18, heat index values will rise again, hitting 105 degrees on Tuesday and staying in the triple digits through Friday. The National Weather Service Paducah, who’s coverage area includes Hopkinsville-Christian County, shared that several heat records have been broken in the region already this month.
“We have already broken the record for number of days with a 100+ heat index for the month of September at all of our five primary climate stations,” said a statement from NWS, “Hopefully by this time next week we are done with 90-degree temperatures and 100-degree heat index readings until 2027.”
A Heat Advisory is currently in effect through Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
