In the Articles of Incorporation, the club was described as “a civic organization for the purpose of promoting, advancing and stimulating the social, cultural and civic interest in Hopkinsville.”

In 1984, under the leadership of President Walton N. Smith, the organization launched Pioneers BBQ and Pioneers Private Catering. The purpose of inception was to raise money for local organizations, including charities and nonprofits.

In 2005, President Gregory B. Williams led the organization to establish the Pioneers Inc. Educational Endowment at Hopkinsville Community College.

“Fundraising gives us the opportunity to give away four scholarships to local high school students of approximately $1,500 for a year,” Standard said. The civic club’s annual fish fry supports scholarship efforts. They have raised altogether over $1.2 million for local education and charities.

One of their most popular events of the year is right around the corner as they prepare for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. Volunteers will cook for and serve around 1,000 community members, giving them a fresh, home cooked meal for free.

The Pioneers host their barbecues and other events at 904 North Main Street in Hopkinsville. To learn more about Pioneers Inc., see upcoming events, or book catering, visit the website.
