PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A state representative and the City of Pembroke have responded after the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet installed a new stop sign that converts the intersection of U.S. 41 and KY 115 (Pembroke Oak Grove Road) to a four-way stop. Previously, only motorists on KY 115 had to stop at this intersection.
According to a news release from KYTC District 2, message boards went up in early September alerting motorists to the coming change. The new signage was installed on Oct. 28. They said this change was part of a highway safety initiative at an intersection that has seen a number of crashes through the years.
Despite the message boards, a public statement from the City of Pembroke said city hall found out about the new four-way stop when it was already being installed, preventing them from warning residents about the change.
In response, local State Representative Myron Dossett said that he did not request this change and had instead inquired about additional signage and a lower speed limit at this intersection. However, he has been assured by KYTC that if issues arise as a result of the four-way stop, they will find an alternate solution
“If this does slow down the speed of traffic through Pembroke it will in the end be a good thing,” said Dossett in a statement. “Too many times over the summer either myself or more importantly my wife and grandchildren have experienced vehicles of all types traveling through Pembroke at a high rate of speed and luckily neither my family or anyone else in this community I love so much have been involved in an accident. I will be monitoring the situation very closely.”
