HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority has issued a statement explaining recent concerns about the smell and taste of tap water in Hopkinsville.

According to HWEA, Lake Barkley is the main water source for the city, and it’s experiencing a natural seasonal change. This change can affect the taste and smell of water coming out of faucets. They are attempting to remedy the situation by flushing fire hydrants in the water distribution system in order to freshen the water.

“While the change in taste may be noticeable to some, the water is safe to drink and meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water regulations,” said HWEA.

The Christian County Water District is a water purchaser from HWEA, so their users are experiencing the same quality issues. They also acknowledged the problem and are taking similar steps to get rid of the odor.
